Red goes faster...

Congratulations to HOLDEN for their superb performance on the weekend. When it comes to racing, I barrack for the Red Army...but when it comes to driving a car, I'd go with anything that gets me from A to B.

Ok, enough about cars. Honestly, they are boring. We all know that.

So, onto a problem I used to face at least once a week. I have spoken before about CD ripping, and I have also stated I think CD ripping is weak and lame... Back in the days of about year nine or ten, I was one who would take part in listening to burnt CD's. It was what you'd do. We didn't know it was illegal, and probably didn't care anyway... But now I personally see it as immoral and a great insult to the bands who produce the music.

When I see people burning CD's or asking for a copy of a CD, I suggest they buy the CD instead, but am usually ignored. If they are wanting the CD because they haven't heard the band and just wanted to take a "peek" at what the music the band has produced sounds like, then why not use a site such as HMV which provides snippets of the songs. It provides a huge database of small clips to give you a taste of a band or CD.

People may say "But musicians are rich and what do they care?"...Well, did you ever stop to think that if no one buys their music, where is the incentive to start making another CD?

Think about it next time you are listening to a burnt CD....by the way, for more on this see the other entry on music ripping... and please...COMMENT!

The question is do artists "create CDs" or do they compose music?

Before we had CDs, we had cassettes. Before we had cassettes, we had records. Before we had records, we had ????

And before we had ???? we had...

We had music!!!

Tim, the debate is not about the future of musicians and composers. That will always be secure. It is a debate about future definition of intellectual property, and the copyright and patent legislation that goes with it, in the digital age.

You've brought up a good point.

You made me think about electronic music/techno. Techno is music that can't be performed LIVE. Music, as you (kind of) said, just used to be live performances. "And before we had ???? we had...

We had music!!!"
Music is mainly about the performance. If the musician can't perform the music he/she has made, then that has defeated the purpose of being a musician...(in my mind)...music is part about the SOUND, and partly about the PERFORMANCE.

I hope I havent gone off track...

Hey, it's Mr McDuncan. I thought I'd comment on your BLOG Tim.

I'm not sure, but I think I might have to make an official blog too for my course later on. YOU'LL SEE.

I agree with you on not stealing music, Timtim. The way I look at it, you're supporting the artist if you buy their CDs and merch and attend their concerts. Of course music will always be around, but by choosing to give some money to the artist for what they give to you, you ensure they have the funds to continue doing what they do. A lot of musicians really aren't that rich.

Basically, I'd like to support the stuff that is awesome and not let any money or support get to the stuff that sucks.

sorry, i got a lil longwinded.
